Piffaro thanks you for a successful 2013-2014 season. Now the band are preparing to travel to Europe in their off season.
The shawms are being stowed, the bagpipes bundled, and flights booked: but stay tuned! An exciting new season is being planned!
After two years in chilly northern Europe, we’re ready for the music of sunbaked Mediterranean climes: Italy and Spain!
Piffaro will delve into two important manuscripts. The Lerma cathedral manuscripts from Lerma, Spain, contain a wealth of music of the mid 16th through early 17th centuries.
The Casanatense manuscript 2856 from Ferrara were designed for the court alta capella in that fabled northern Italian city around 1480.
At our annual Christmas concert our favorite annual guest, soprano Laura Heimes, and cornettist, Kiri Tollaksen join us. We will visit Napoli, where the intersection of Italian and Spanish cultural, political, mercantile and social strands produced a distinctive and international musical style.
Happy 500th birthday, Cipriano de Rore!
De Rore was a pivotal figure in the composition of Italian music of the 16th c and had immense international influence on subsequent composition in general. His compositions offer great variety, ingenuity, and beauty.
Mark your calendars now: dates for each concert can be found below.
Concert 1: Autumn
